2010 Dream Institute Schedule

Dear Dreamers (and who isn’t?)

Welcome to the 2010 Dream Institute of Peace Lake. We have planned several workshops over the summer to bring you a variety of ways to explore your dreams.

All Dreamworkers at Peace Lake have worked and studied with Jeremy Taylor, founder of the Marin Institute for Projective Dreamwork. We have designed the workshops to meet MIPD standards and support those of you who wish to be certified through MIPD.

Each workshop will begin Friday evening with an Introduction to Projective Group Dreamwork. This will give everyone a common grounding in how we will work with the dreams for the workshop.

The Saturday morning session will focus on some content to work with your dreams (i.e. labyrinth, creative brushwork, writing, Judeo-Christian perspective on dreams, etc.) The afternoon session will integrate the information of the morning with the practice of working your dreams.

Lunch on Saturday will be healthy and tasty and included in the price of the workshop. If you are staying overnight on Friday, breakfast is included in the cost of your accommodations

Those who participated in the groups last year (our first!) found the worships intriguing and enriching to their dreamwork practice.

We hope you will join us. And bring a friend!

Blessings,

Priscilla Denham, Director of The Dream Institute at Peace Lake

Dreams and the Labyrinth

The Christian and Pagan labyrinth, Eastern mandalas, medicine wheels, all are traditions of the circle that create sacred, protected space. Carl Jung wrote that he came to understand the process of individuation when he began to study the medieval alchemists, who informed his theories of psychology. The labyrinth is the alchemical vas, the vessel where transformation takes place.

Like dreams, the labyrinth offers layer upon layer of meaning, endless potential for the experience of compassion and wholeness, and the ability to be adapted to secular, spiritual, healing, and therapeutic journeys. In this workshop, we will explore dreams and the labyrinth as complementary spiritual practices. We will learn the techniques of projective dreamwork, as we work our dreams together, and we will experience several facilitated labyrinth walks. The Peace Lake labyrinths will be available all weekend for individual exploration as well.

Facilitators:  Theresa Gleason, D. Min., LICSW,  Priscilla Denham, D. Min.,  Calen Rayne D. Min.

Exploring Dreams Through Creative Expression:

Creating Dream Journals with Haiku and Contemplative Brush

Mandala is a Sanskrit word that means "circle" or "completion." In various spiritual traditions, the creation of mandalas is employed for focusing your attention, used as a spiritual tool and for creating a sacred space to aid in meditation and trance. Creating Mandalas is one of the most important ways to connect to the Dream Time. Our retreat will commence with embodied labyrinth work, using sound and meditation to build the group container. From this nexus will emerge the material that will then be explored with contemplative brush and haiku. It is being offered in the spirit of the Dalai Lama when he said, "It is in the context of a calm mind that we may say that even the one careful stroke of a brush can speak." We will experience "meditation with a brush" and create a variety of one stroke paintings based on geometric forms from world wisdom traditions. We will also explore the history of haiku and learn how to create "wordless poems". We will create dream journals with haiku and brush paintings. Please come to the workshop with one or two dreams you are willing to share for group work. As in any Dream Group, confidentiality and/or anonymity will be the maintained. Retreat led by Rev. Dr. Calen Rayne, a member of core faculty at Peace Lake.

Dream Institute:

Feng Shui of Dreams

Learn how ancient arts of feng shui and sacred landscapes are important elements in understanding your dreams. Please bring a diagram of your bedroom, as we will examine the energetic configuration of sleeping area to see how what one might consider an "exterior" influence can actually have a profound effect on our dream state. We will also explore feng shui and sacred landscapes elements within specific dreams to understand how the "interior" messages of our dreams may be better understood through these ancient practices. Please come to the workshop with one or two dreams you are willing to share for group work. As in any Dream Group, confidentiality and/or anonymity will be the maintained. Jini Rayne has studied feng shui and sacred landscapes for over twenty years in several traditions, is certified as a Master Teacher of Feng Shui, and is a member of core faculty at Peace Lake.

Dreaming: From Biblical Times to You

Dreaming is something all humanity does and has done throughout history. It is as natural and automatic as our breathing and heart-beating. Jewish and Christian scripture tells us our spiritual fore parents believed it was a way God spoke to them. Psychotherapists understand dreams as a “royal road to the unconscious”. Whatever else they may be, dreams are a way you express your creativity and ability to “think outside the box” on a regular basis.

In this workshop we will explore dreaming as a form of spiritual meditation. We will look at dreams in scripture, learn some dream theory basics, and tools for remembering our dreams and how to interpret them. Using guidelines based on Jeremy Taylor’s dreamgroup theory, we will discover signposts of the inner path. Come hear more clearly what your Wisdom Guide may be whispering to you.

Rev. Dr. Priscilla Denham will present workshop. Priscilla is a member of core faculty at Peace Lake.
